Among others, the project seeks to promote women and girls’ rights, economic justice and build resilient livelihoods.
Speaking on Friday during a visit to Kadewere Resource Centre in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kadewere, Siwinda said he was impressed to see women getting involved in economic activities to support their families.
“We make these tours to appreciate what is happening on the ground and I am impressed to see that what
we read in reports is a true reflection of what is happening here,” he said.
Siwinda commended women forums for helping to fight gender-based violence (GBV) and identi f ying sponsors for children in the district.
In her remarks, Cavwoc programmes coordinator Virginia Lozo Nyirenda said there has been a significant improvement in the fight of GBV since the project rolled out in 2008.
“Chiradzulu was one of the districts that were experiencing GBV but things have changed,” she said.
Nyirenda said they were previously registering over 20 GBV cases daily at T/A level but the situation has improved as they are recording 20 cases every three years at district level.
A beneficiary, Rhoda Malefula, thanked ActionAid for the programme, saying she connected her house to solar power, bought motorcycle and is supporting her children in school
